The Story Behind the Book
by Veronica Croft
Truthfully I never set out to write a book. I’ve written quite a few articles for magazines in the past - but a book? Come on, only authors write books!
It all began when I started to prepare material for our Enneagram courses. To get everything clear in my head I started writing about the nine personality types, beginning with the Two – well, I DID know more about Twos than any of the other eight types, being a Two myself! Then I went on writing about the other types until bit by bit I had quite a chunk written about all of the nine personalities. But at that stage this material was meant for me to use when teaching the course – it certainly wasn’t going to be a book. Or so I thought.
In those days – and we’re talking 2004 – I used to visit a medium now and then for guidance. One day while I was with her she went spontaneously into trance – and a completely different energy started to speak through her. It was her voice but it most certainly wasn’t her. Wow! What an incredible experience that was! I just sat there, feeling as if my jaw was on my knees, quite unable to say a thing.
This was my introduction to The Collective. They explained that they wished to give my son Chris and I a series of lessons about the Enneagram as it was meant to be used (little did I know then that the lessons would still be going on to this day!) and that, with the help of on-going teachings from The Collective, we would write a book together. All I could think was “A book? But books have lots of words in!”
The articles I had written in the past were never more than 2000 words. So, feeling just a little out of my depth, I started riffling through my bookshelf, and began calculating how many words were in the average book. Well, that certainly didn’t increase my confidence in our ability to write a whole book. An average book contains about 100,000 words!
In our first proper session together, The Collective reassured us, telling us to just write what was ‘there’ and one day it would become a book. Well, of course, they were quite right (it’s a funny thing, but 12th dimensional beings usually are right …) and over the years the book grew and grew until it became rather too large for just one book. So, we had to remove a whole chunk (which will form part of the next book) and that brought the word count down a lot … then I carried on writing more … until finally, the book was finished. I think it’s still rather large - well, there’s a lot to say about each of the nine personality types, and when you multiply that by nine you have a whole lot of book !
The Collective refer to it as ‘this book we have written together’. What a privilege it has been! It is our profound hope that these writings will help many, many people all over the world. And the ultimate purpose of the book? To make a difference!
